State owned defence conglomerate Denel is looking for a new Group Chief Operations Officer (COO).
The company has posted an advert for the position, with a closing date of 17 March.
In the advert, Denel states it “is an Employment Equity employer that gives preference to suitable candidates who add to the diversity of the company.”
Denel lists key performance areas as:
Formulate, communicate and implement the Denel operational execution strategy and planning as derived from Denel strategy for best possible revenue and profitability growth.
Overall responsible for achieving the operational KPAs of the Denel Group-wide business including: Programme delivery precision; Operational Excellence; Programme and contract gross margin sustainment; Research and development KPAs; Cash flow management on major programmes.
Responsible for implantation of Operational Excellence as a strategic driver.
Responsible for group-wide implementation of proactive programme management process and practices, to ensure on the time and in full programme delivery based on solid systems engineering and programmes management principles.
Responsible for group — wide programme/ contract management execution.
Contribute to the Corporate Strategy and direction of the organisation.
Support group-wide implantation of an integrated intellectual property policy framework.
Foster a culture of innovation, business mind set and customer centricity.
Regarding qualifications and experience, “an MBA would be advantageous.” Denel is also looking for programme management qualification and related experience in system engineering and managing a portfolio of projects across different divisions. Candidates need to demonstrate experience in financial planning and analysis and have experience in a technical environment.
Thamsanqa Mbele is currently Denel’s Group Chief Operations Officer, according to the latest Denel annual report. Mbele served as Chairman and Director of Pamodzi Hotels Plc until 28 February 2015.
The Denel Group recently appointed a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In the third week of December Cabinet announced it had approved the appointment of Daniel (Danie) du Toit as new the new group chief executive officer of Denel. He moved into office on 14 January.
