CAD will be joined by one of its shareholders, Atlas Elektronik – from Germany – in a combined stand.
Cybicom Atlas Defence (CAD) is once again ready for this year’s Africa Aerospace & Defence (AAD) show. This year, CAD will be joined by one of its shareholders, Atlas Elektronik – from Germany – in a combined stand, which signals the strong working relationship between the companies and the solid backing that CAD has from its shareholders.
“The AAD show is a fantastic opportunity for us, as a local South African defence company, to showcase some of the technological developments we have undertaken and brought to fruition over the last two years,” says MD Dave Viljoen.
This year, CAD will demonstrate the naval bridge concept demonstrator, and will be unveiling a new composite multifunction console, which has been locally designed and manufactured. Other interesting items on display include the Atlas Combat Management System, AIMS, and the new Oculus Rift virtual display headset.
Cybicom (the majority shareholder of CAD) will have a stand for the first time at AAD, adjoining CAD, and will be promoting the Presagis Modelling and Simulation Suite 13. The Cybicom stand will have a helicopter flight simulator, which has been put together by CAD and CSIR to showcase the Presagis development products. The image generation and scenario simulation is being supplied by CAD, while CSIR is providing the complex flight modelling, including a wake model which is currently specific to the Meko class frigate, though could be applied generically to any ship in that class. The effects will be similar (but not specific) for buildings, oil rig structures, etc. The creation of generic wake models is done using CFD, and is augmented by wind tunnel data.
Cybicom CEO Malcolm Behrens stated: “We expect the show to be very busy for us, given the current and imminent defence acquisition projects, and we see the AAD show as the ideal forum to engage with various companies in order to ensure a high South African content for these projects, and thus making local through-life support a new reality.”
