The South African Department of Defence and Military Veterans is hosting the inaugural South Africa/Malawi defence committee meeting at Defence Headquarters in Pretoria today.

The two day meeting to be co-chaired by the Acting Secretary for Defence, Tsepe Motumi and his Malawian counterpart, Patric Kachimera. They will, among other things, discuss defence cooperation between the two countries in areas of training, peacekeeping and technical assistance.

The meeting between the two countries is a sequel of a Defence Cooperation Agreement which the countries signed in South Africa on February 25 last year.

Motumi says “the forging of close bilateral relations between the two countries is important in addressing regional and continental security challenges.”

South Africa has signed defence cooperation agreements with most SADC member states.
