Ivory Coast will hold a parliamentary election on Dec. 11, a government spokesman said the first poll since a civil war ended in April this year.

“Legislative elections will take place Dec. 11 as proposed by the electoral commission. The government has endorsed that date,” spokesman Bruno Kone told reporters in the capital.
“It is important the country gets going with all of its institutions as quickly as possible,” he said.

The West African country tipped into chaos after a disputed presidential election last November that triggered a war killing more than 3,000 people and displacing more than a million, Reuters reports.

President Alassane Ouattara, who won the election according to U.N.-certified results, was able to take power after his fighters arrested former leader Laurent Gbagbo in mid-April.
