The Joint Standing Committee on Defence has elected Hlengiwe Mgabadeli its chairwoman at a meeting on September 2.
Mgabadeli was tipped for the post by the African National Congress in May and already serves on the National Assembly`s Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans.
She was elected unopposed.
The Parliamentary Monitoring Group reports Mgabadeli “thanked the committee for the vote of confidence.”
The PMG minutes of the meeting added Mgabadeli hoped for good co-operation and “that the committee could make a difference”.
She felt that the Joint Standing Committee on Defence should be open, strong and logical in taking the country forward.
