Burkina Faso and Niger have jointly asked the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to solve a border dispute, said the ICJ.

The west African countries agreed last year to let the ICJ determine the frontier in the Botou bend area, and filed the request at the court on Tuesday, the ICJ said in a statement.

The countries have agreed to safeguard peace and security in the border region pending the ruling, the ICJ said.
