Britain backs second term for UN chief Ban

Britain, one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, said it supported a second term for Ban Ki-moon as the head of the United Nations.

The White House said Tuesday US President Barack Obama supports Ban’s bid.
“I am glad to support Ban Ki-moon in his candidacy for a second term as Secretary General of the United Nations,” Prime Minister David Cameron said Wednesday, Reuters reports.

Ban, a South Korean, formally asked members for a second five-year term earlier this week. His current term ends on December 31 and there is no rival candidate as yet.
