Dr. Henri Fouché
Tshwane University of Technology
 
Dr Henri Fouché is a lecturer at the Department of Safety and Security management, faculty of Humanities, where he lectures on the investigation of crime to under graduate and post graduate students of policing. He also provides study supervision to masters students. Henri has extensive experience in law enforcement in the South African Police and private security industry as well as experience as a seafarer. He is an executive committee member of the Policing Association of Southern Africa (POLSA) and a member of the Maritime Law Association and the Institute for Municipal Public Safety of Southern Africa (IMPS-SA). In 2006 Henri completed his doctoral thesis entitled “Policing maritime piracy and armed robbery on ships in South Africa’s territorial waters and the contiguous zone” at TUT. His field of expertise is policing maritime piracy, one of the oldest enterprises of organised crime. In July 2006 he delivered a paper at Antananarivo, Madagascar, entitled “Policing piracy and armed robbery of ships in East Africa and the Southwest Indian ocean islands. Dr. Fouche’s name has recently been included in the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) roster of experts and consultants (on maritime piracy) for future reference.

Maj-Gen. (Rtd), Olasiende Ishola Williams

Maj-Gen. (Rtd), Olasiende Ishola Williams’s academic education started at King’s College in Lagos and London. He completed a certificate in National Security Studies at the University of Keele and a Diploma in Nuclear Studies at the Open University in the UK. Furthermore he studied at the Nigerian Defence Academy, School of Signals in the UK, Armed Forces Staff College and Higher Defence College in France and the National Defence College in India.

Maj Gen Williams went through various Junior and Senior Positions and Ranks up to the Rank of Major-General with the Nigerian Army. He retired from the position of Chief of Defence Operations, Training and Plans in November 1993

Since then, he has been in the NGO World as the Executive Secretary of Panafrican Strategic and Policy Research Group (PANAFSTRAG) formerly (AFSTRAG) an NGO-think Tank working on synergising people of Africa with people of African Descent Globally in Areas of Culture, Technology and Entrepreneurship, Trade and Human Security in Lagos

He has written and contributed papers and chapters of Books, Proceedings and Reports on Military Affairs, Culture, Sports and Anti-Corruption issues.


Claude Schravesande,
Standing Committee for Refugee Affairs
 
CLAUDE SCHRAVESANDE started his career with the South African Police in 1960 as a constable with duties related to accident staff, criminal investigation and crime prevention. In 1965 he joined the South African Railways as a Unit Assistant and worked as Town Manager for the Municipality of Amanzimtoti and Natalia Development Board from 1972 till 1987.

He then joined the South African Department of Home Affairs as a District Representative, Assistant Director, Deputy Director and Director until his retirement in 2003. His responsibilites included overall control over the sections, visas; ports of entry; aliens control (illegal aliens); movement control system (computerised record of cross border movement of persons).

He is retired and since 2004 he works as the chairperson for the Standing Committee for Refugees.


Albert Gomes-Mugumya
Center for Conflict Resolution (CECORE) Uganda
 
Ugandan born Albert Gomes-Mugumya is a Consultant Specialist in Conflict, Peace and Human Security and he currently heads the European Union/Irish Aid funded Minority Rights & Conflict Prevention project of the Center for Conflict Resolution (CECORE) in Uganda . He has previously worked in the United Kingdom, Cambodia and South Africa . Mr Mugumya has a Bachelors degree in Politics, History and Philosophy from Makerere University ( Uganda ), and a Masters degree in Conflict Resolution from Lancaster University UK .
He is also an Author, Writer and Researcher. He is the author of the book “United Nations Transitional Adminstration in Eastern Slavonia, Baranja & Western Sirmium-An Enigma. ISBN: 978-3-639-11649-6

Henri Boshoff
Institute of Security Studies (ISS)
 
Henri Boshoff was born in Pretoria on 12 April 1957. He attended school in Pretoria after witch he completed a four year diploma in education at the University of Pretoria in 1979. After military service he taught in Pretoria until 1986. In 1986 he joined the SADF and was involved with the operational planning of internal and external operations. His area of expertise is terrorism, peacekeeping, support to the police and African politics. He also obtained an Honours Degree in African Politics in 1995. He left the SANDF at the end of 2001 to join the ISS as a Military Analyst for the Africa Security Analysis Programme. Since 1 April he is the Head of the Peace Missions Programme. Henri Boshoff has presented numerous papers at conferences and seminars and is a regular commentator on local and international radio and television. He regularly lectures on security issues and has published, edited and contributed to a large number of journals, books and other publications. He is currently focusing on conflict and the military in Africa, specifically in the Great Lakes area.

Major (Rtd) John Kazoora
 
Hon major (retired) John Kazoora is an independent consultant on Democratic Governance, Legislation and Institutional Reform. Prior to that, he was a Member of the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda for 10 years, where he chaired the Parliament Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs. He served in the Uganda Army for more than 20 years and also took part in the liberation struggle of 1981-86. He was once the deputy director general of the Internal Security Organisation. He holds Bachelors and Masters Degree in Public Administration from Makerere University (Uganda).
