South African company Delmon Aviation has taken delivery of the first Diamond DA 42 MPP NG aircraft in South Africa and will use it for aerial surveying work.
The aircraft arrived in South Africa in mid-September and was formally handed over to Delmon by Diamond Airborne Sensing, a subsidiary of Diamond Aircraft, at the Africa Aerospace and Defence exhibition on September 18.
The aircraft is equipped with a Garmin G1000 glass cockpit, fully integrated autopilot system (GFC700), on-top exhaust system (reducing the noise level by 21 decibel) and AE300 turbocharged diesel engines using Jet-A1 fuel. It is also fitted with a Leica laser scanner under the fuselage.
Diamond Aircraft’s local representative Elegance Group organised the sale of the aircraft to Delmon, which operates another DA 42 but the new aircraft is the first New Generation DA 42 Multi-Purpose Platform (MPP) in South Africa. Delmon said it may acquire a third DA 42 MPP for its survey work.
“We are pleased to have received our new Diamond DA42 MPP here in South Africa. Our business has changed since we purchased our first Diamond DA42 MPP last year. Operating the Diamond DA42 MPP planes provides our business with extremely low operating cost, JET-A1 fuel burn and long endurance of up to 8 hrs. In conclusion this immensely benefits our clients as it reduces project costs and turnaround times whilst providing added safety on the project,” said Bob Neill, Managing Director at Delmon Aviation.
Max Hussman, Managing Director at Elegance Group said that, “Innovative approach and strategy have proven to be the right path forward. We are proud of our great relation with Diamond Aircraft Industries and with great anticipation expect further exciting news to follow. A great thank goes out to Delmon Aviation.”
“The delivery of the first Diamond Aircraft GeoSTAR to South Africa shows the importance of geodesy and laser-scanning in fast growing countries. It will be possible to realize a 3-dimensional database without creating any noise pollution to the residents. We will support our customer as well as our partner to guarantee the best benefit out of this product,” said Markus Fischer, Sales Director Diamond Airborne Sensing.
