Originally built for the oil and gas sector as a crew boat, the recently converted Madiba 1 is now ready to offer a standby service to Robben Island Museum as a ferry, with the capacity to carry 200 passengers.
Built and subsequently converted by Veecraft, the vessel features a wave piercing catamaran hull that provides superior stability and high fuel efficiency. The vessel is guaranteed to offer a functional, stable, safe and efficient platform with excellent sea-keeping properties to its new owners, Meltt.
Designed to operate safely in 70 knot winds and 7m swells, the Madiba 1 has been analysed for intact and damage stability in accordance with SAMSA Marine Notice 17 of 2015 for HSC multi-hull vessels.
With two CAT C32 ACERT C engines, the ferry will reach speeds of 25 knots and can undertake the trip from the Port of Cape Town to Robben Island in just 15 minutes.
