defenceWeb image galleries a hit

defenceWeb has, in the past months, launched a number of new galleries aimed at giving its readers a front row view of the action and a better picture of defence and security activities in South Africa.

Its galleries cover everything from live fire events, naval exercises, military hardware, medal parades and attaché functions. More than 300 photos have been published in the last month, and these have been viewed more than 10 000 times and counting.

defenceWeb’s extensive photographic coverage of the Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) exhibition and accompanying air show has been particularly popular, which is hardly surprising, given its status as Africa’s largest defence show. The air show portion of AAD 2012 was notable in that it was held over two days, allowing 95 000 people to view displays by more than 35 aircraft. Through defenceWeb’s AAD Air Show gallery, it is able to give tens of thousands more people the chance to see these magnificent flying machines.

Another popular gallery covers Exercise Seboka, the South African National Defence Force’s (SANDF’s) annual combat readiness exercise, which saw dozens of armoured vehicles (and several aircraft) take out targets using live ammunition and tear up the veld as they took on an imaginary enemy. Judging from the craters left in the ground afterwards, any aggressor should have a healthy respect for the SANDF.

More galleries are in the works, covering armoured vehicles, the South African Air Force and South African Army, among others. With more photos on the way, defenceWeb.co.za is most definitely worth keeping an eye on.
