Newcomer Swiss helicopter manufacturer Kopter Group have appointed Safomar Aviation as their South African distributor.
The Kopter SH09 is a Swiss five to eight seat, single-turbine utility helicopter which is currently under development by Kopter to challenge the established manufacturers. The first prototype took to the air on 2 October 2014 and firm orders total over 150 aircraft.
Speaking at the African Aerospace and Defence Exhibition currently underway at AFB Waterkloof in Centurion, Mathias Senes, Chief Commercial Officer at Kopter Group, noted that they were not appointing Safomar Aviation as an agent, but as a fully-fledged distributor.
Safomar Aviation was established in 1985 to support the aviation industry in Africa, particularly to promote and develop the use of helicopters in a divergent number of specialist applications.
Shai Shalem, Safomar Aviation Chief Executive Officer, noted that the 2.5 metric ton Kopter fitted perfectly in the Safomar Aviation product line, between the small Enstrom helicopter and the much larger Sikorsky range of helicopters.
The Kopter Group only received its EASA certificate granting it Design Organization Approval in February 2018, with the Type Certificate for the SH09 helicopter planned for early 2019.
So positive is Safomar Aviation about the SH09 that they have placed an order for two examples, the first of which is due to arrive in South Africa at the end of 2021, with the second arriving in early 2022.
