US loses UAV over Libya

The United States military has lost an unarmed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over Libya, a day after an Italian Predator went down.

US Africa Command said the UAV was lost over Tripoli on 21 November.

It said that UAV operations are conducted in Libya to assess the ongoing security situation and monitor violent extremist activity.

“These operations are critical to counter terror activity in Libya and are fully coordinated with appropriate government officials.”

It added that the incident is currently under investigation.

On 20 November an Italian Air Force Predator crashed in Libya. It was also unarmed and believed to be on a reconnaissance mission.
