Three dead in Botswana Defence Force C212 crash


Three people have been killed in the crash of a Botswana Defence Force (BDF) C212 light transport aircraft.

The aircraft came down near Thebephatswana Air Base on 9 February. “A Botswana Defence Force CASA 212 aircraft which left Thebephatshwa Air Base for Gaborone last evening [9 February] has crashed in the general area of Thebephatshwa and three fatalities have been confirmed,” said a statement released the following day by the BDF.

The statement added that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash.

The BDF director of protocol and public affairs Colonel Tebo Dikole said the names of the deceased will be withheld until their next of kin have been informed.

The Botswana Defence Force Air Wing has in its transport aircraft inventory approximately three C-130B Hercules, ten BN-2 Defenders, two C212s, two CN235s and five Cessna Skymasters.
