Mrs S V Kalyan (DA) to ask the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs:

(1) (a) On what date was the tender awarded for the management of the radars of the SA Weather Service (SAWS), (b) to what entity was the tender awarded, (c) what was the value of the tender and (d) for how long does this contract run;
(2) whether considering the value of the tender, the Chief Executive Officer of the SAWS received permission from the Board of the SAWS to award the tenders; if not, why not; if so, when was this permission sought?



THE MINISTER OF WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS ANSWERS:
(1) (a) 1 November 2007 (b) SSI a DHV Company (c) R14,675,785 and (d) approximately four years.
(2) No. In terms of the SAWS Delegation of Authority, the Chief Executive Officer of the SAWS is the delegated authority for final approval for single expenses of this value, and has to inform the Board.
