New aviation exhibition underway in South Africa

Between 4 and 6 July, Wonderboom airport outside Pretoria is hosting South Africa’s newest aviation exhibition, Aero South Africa.

According to the organisers, Aero SA is Africa’s largest general aviation trade show, covering the full spectrum of services and products for the aviation industry.

From ultralights and gliders to business jets, helicopters, remotely piloted aircraft and electric aircraft as well as avionics and maintenance, various companies are showcasing their products and services.

Attendees are invited to meet with leading industry experts, enthusiasts, aviation companies, flight training schools, pilots, business jet owners and private aircraft owners over the three-day event.

Konstantin von Vieregge, CEO of Messe Frankfurt SA, said that “we believe that this is the perfect time to launch a business-to-business show specifically related to general aviation in Africa. According to the GAMA report 2017, there has been a steady increase in aircraft registrations in South Africa, and that there is a gap in the market for such an event.”

“Wonderboom National airport is the perfect venue to host Aero SA, as it allows for the opportunity to conduct test flights, clients can fly their own aircraft to the show, and there is ample space for exhibitors that allows easy access to trade visitors,” said von Vieregge.

Aero South Africa is presented in corporation with Messe Friedrichshafen, the organisers of the Aero Friedrichshafen trade show that attracts 35 000 visitors from 60 different countries. This year’s edition will be held in Germany between 10 and 13 April.

In South Africa, Messe Frankfurt has an established office with 30 staff and organizes several events such as the Kyalami Festival of Motoring, Cape Town International Boat Show, Futuroad Expo and AutoMechanika.

“Aero South Africa perfectly rounds out our South African portfolio, as we already offer the largest automotive and boating trade shows in the country and, with this new aviation trade show, will thus cover all three elements. We are looking forward to close cooperation with the Messe Friedrichshafen team,” von Vieregge said.
