The Kenya Air Force (KAF) will soon be taking delivery of its three new C-27J Spartan airlifters from Italy’s Leonardo.
One of the aircraft (registration 222) was photographed in Kenya Air Force markings at Turin – Caselle airport in Italy on 5 September.
In June this year it emerged that Kenya had ordered three C-27Js and an undisclosed number of AW139 helicopters between November 2017 and February 2018. The acquisitions are funded from loans advanced to Treasury by private banks, with the C-27J deal apparently worth Sh20 billion ($198 448 276). They were secured through a loan advanced to Treasury by the Unitcredit Spa Bank on 11 December 2017.
