Russia’s Ilyushin has overhauled two Algerian Air Force Il-76TD aircraft and delivered them last year, and in December received more Il-76TDs for refurbishment work.
This is according to Ilyushin’s annual report for 2015, which said the company also overhauled one Il-76MD and four Il-76TDs for China last year and is set to deliver another two refurbished Il-76TDs this year.
Ilyushin (a subsidiary of the United Aircraft Corporation) also started repairing a Syrian Il-76T last year and delivered three refurbished Il-76MDs to India. A fourth is scheduled for delivery in 2016.
The Algerian Air Force is believed to have three Il-76MD and nine Il-76TD transports in service as well as six Il-78 tankers. For several years the Algerian Air Force has been looking at replacing some of its older Russian equipment and has evaluated the Airbus Defence and Space A300 Multi-Role Tanker Transport, A400M Atlas and Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.
