The South African Air Traffic and Navigation Services’ (ATNS) Aviation Training Academy (ATA) has been rewarded by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for its training initiatives.

ATA is one of IATA’s 25 regional training providers worldwide and it was this week named as winner of a regional training partner award.

The South African air traffic and navigation training academy conducted 30 training courses attended by more than 500 candidates in the period under review.

The citation for the ATNS award reads, in part, that it was recognised for “impressive results achieved and the outstanding contribution made” by ATA for “developing the human capital of the air transport industry”.

ATNA chief executive, Thabani Mthiyane, saw the award as reward for ATNS “showing its mettle” as a regional leader in aviation safety.
“ATNS’ quest to develop the human capital of the aviation industry on the African continent is being recognised. We are part of a continental collective, whose mission is to upgrade the skills of aviation professionals thereby strengthening the African aviation as a whole,” he said.

Since it opened its doors for training in 2000 ATA has presented training course to 9 000 local and international air traffic and navigation students and professionals.
