Finmeccanica to supply Morocco with air traffic control systems

Global defence and security equipment manufacturer Finmeccanica has announced new contracts to supply and install air traffic management and air traffic control radar systems worth €120m in Morocco and three other countries in the Middle East and South-East Asia.

In a statement released late last week, the company said its Security and Information Systems Division was awarded the contracts from Morocco, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia at the recent World ATM Congress, which was held in the Spanish capital Madrid.

The Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA) selected Finmeccanica to improve the country’s national air traffic control radar system. The contract will see the company supply six co-mounted Perimeter Surveillance Radars (PSR) and Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radars (MSSR) in the South Region of the country and one additional PSR for the Oriental region’s main hub. This deal makes Finmeccanica the largest supplier of radar sensors to Morocco, the African country with the largest number of ATC radars.

The work in Morocco is scheduled for completion by end of 2017.
