Airbus Military is the only military and humanitarian transport
aircraft manufacturer to develop, produce, sell and support a
comprehensive family of airlifters ranging from three to 37 tonnes
of payload. Airbus Military is fully responsible for the A400M
programme, as well as for the military tanker transport (MRTT)
derivative of the A330, wich can be fitted with an in-house
developed state-of-the art flight-refuelling boom (ARBS) unique in
its kind.
It
is also responsible for any future military derivative of civil
Airbus platforms. With the C-295, CN-235 and C-212, Airbus Military
is the global leader in the market segments for light and
medium-sized military transport aircraft with some 650 flying with
more than 100 operators worldwide. The C-295, CN-235 and C-212 have
their corresponding MPA versions.
Headquartered in Madrid (Spain), the company’s facilities are
essentially based in Spain. Its main sites are Getafe where the
civil Airbus platforms are converted into Multi Role Tanker
Transport (MRTT) aircraft. The other main facility is in San Pablo
close to Sevilla where the complete production and final assembly of
the C-212, CN-235 and C-295 takes place in an all new facility next
to the A400M Final Assembly Line opened in 2007.
Airbus Military was formally created in April 2009, following the
integration of the former Military Transport Aircraft Division (MTAD)
and of Airbus Military Sociedad Limitada (AMSL) into Airbus. This
integration allows for a single and streamlined organisation. In
total, Airbus Military, which has its own P&L accounting, counts
more than 5,000 employees. In 2008, MTAD had a turnover of over five
billion Euros.
Airbus Military builts on the experience developed by the former
Contrucciones Aeronauticas Sociedad Ánonima (CASA), which became
part of EADS, as MTAD, in 2000. Over the years, CASA, which was
founded in 1923, had specialised in the development, construction,
certification, commercialization and support of small military
transport aircraft, while playing a leading role in the
militarization of civil Airbus platforms. It is now also fully in
charge of the development of the all new 21st Century tactical and
logistical Airlifter, the A400M.
Having sold more than 1,000 of these aircraft to 130 customers,
Airbus Military is well established on the world market with
products operated by Air Forces for tactical and strategic transport
and refuelling capabilities as well as for maritime surveillance and
humanitarian aide.
