The African Union on Wednesday brought together for the first time for peace talks Sudan and insurgents fighting government troops in two states bordering South Sudan, in a conflict that has affected almost a million people.
Ethiopia will withdraw its troops from Somalia soon, its prime minister said, voicing frustration with the Mogadishu government and African Union peacekeeping forces that are also battling Islamist militants there.
The Malian army remains poor, corrupt and barely functional months after the launch of a European training mission to rebuild its strength, a French colonel said, urging a rapid payout of pledged donor funds.
