SANDF commits to the Rand Show

SANDF commits to the Rand ShowThe SA National Defence Force (SANDF) will again be out in force at this year’s Rand Show and has committed itself to the Easter exhibition in Johannesburg for 2019 and 2020 as well.
Siphiwe Dlamini, Department of Defence (DoD) head of communication, is reported as saying: “The SANDF will be partnering with the Rand Show and Johannesburg Expo Centre for the next three years.

“We view the Rand Show as the perfect platform to inform the public of the capabilities of the SANDF and to demonstrate to South Africans the SANDF does not only engage in combat missions during wartime but plays an important role serving communities during peacetime”.

Johannesburg Expo Centre chief executive Craig Newman welcomed the defence force back to the Rand Show saying the military presence provided “South African families with an opportunity to connect with the organisation and learn more about its role in society”.

The Rand Show runs from March 30 to April 8 and is open from 10h00 to 21h00.

The SANDF has committed to taking 10 000 square metres of exhibition space where equipment used by the four services – air force, army, military health and navy – will be on display with qualified personnel on hand to answer questions as well as tell show visitors exactly what it is designed to do and how it does that.

The SANDF will, as in past years, be prominent during the show’s official opening with flypasts and parades as well as capability displays, precision drill teams and military bands.

Apart from showcasing what the SANDF is to visitors, the force will also use the Rand Show to highlight the many and varied careers on offer in South Africa’s military.

On this aspect of the display, Dlamini said it was “part of SANDF efforts in contributing toward economic development. It is an aspect of our work we take pride in and we hope to raise awareness of career opportunities in the SANDF through this programme”.
