Third SANDF Suppliers’ Day

Third DoD Suppliers Day at AFB ZwartkopThis year’s Department of Defence Suppliers’ Day, as with both previous ones, was again aimed at small, micro and medium-sized enterprises with no less than 75 turning up at AFB Zwartkop on Friday.
One of the most important points made by the Director: Procurement Management of the SANDF, Brigadier General TE Molaudzi, was the need for potential suppliers to the defence force to ensure they are registered on the National Treasury’s central supplier database. This will become operational on April 1 next year and “no government institution will be allowed to engage with suppliers who are not registered on it”.

Welcoming the record number of potential DoD and SANDF suppliers, Acting Chief of Logistics Major General Morris Moadira said the national footprint of the defence force was a foundation for job creation across all nine provinces.

“This can stimulate local economies especially in rural areas providing opportunities to qualified and up-and-coming SMMEs,” he said.

Moadira said the annual suppliers’ day was one of the tools used to move away from what he called “the traditional adversarial stance” between supplier and user to a more co-operative one benefitting both sides.

In addition to the supplier days the SANDF works with the Department of Trade and industry, National Treasury and the Construction Industry Development Board at workshops where information and various aspects of goods and services supply to government departments, including the SANDF.
