Reutech delivering Land Rogue turrets for Malaysia

A Malaysian Land Rogue 50 calibre turret.Reutech’s Land Rogue remote controlled weapons stations are being delivered to Malaysia after recently passing factory acceptance trials. Reutech is supplying 54 Land Rogues to Denel Land Systems (DLS), which will be used by the Malaysian Army.

The contract for a range of different turrets was awarded to Denel Land Systems via Malaysia’s Deftech, with Reutech Solutions being subcontracted for the 12.7 mm remote controlled weapons station turrets.

Reutech said since receiving the contract, Denel Land Systems requested a few changes on behalf of the Malaysian Army, with changes to the human machine interface so it matches that of other Denel turrets; the installation of the same electro-optical sights as other Denel turrets and the installation of 76 mm smoke grenade launchers. After these changes were made, Reutech requalified the turret, culminating in successful factory acceptance tests and shooting trials witnessed by DLS and the end user.

Delivery of the first production units has now started and production is expected to run over a three year period.

The Land Rogues supplied by Reutech are armed with 12.7 mm Browning M2 machineguns. The Sea Rogue is service with South African Navy and the UAE Coast Guard.

The Land Rogue turret is part of a larger turret order from the Malaysian Army for its AV8 8x8 vehicles. In July 2012 it was announced that Malaysia had signed a 343 million euro (R3.5 billion) contract for turrets and weapons. This includes 69 x two man turrets fitted with the South African GI30 30mm main gun and 54 x missile turrets equipped with the GI30 30mm gun and Denel Dynamics Ingwe anti-tank missile system. The order also includes the supply of 216 laser-guided Ingwe missiles and 54 x remote control weapons systems. Similar turrets are being fitted to the South African Army’s new Badger infantry fighting vehicle – the Malaysian contract would not have been possible without Badger.

Malaysia has ordered 257 FNSS/Deftech AV-8 8x8 armoured vehicles, to be manufactured by Deftech of Malaysia.
