Reutech unveils new unmanned ground vehicle, Super Rogue 3 turret

The B-CAT unmanned ground vehicle.Reutech has unveiled its new B-Cat unmanned ground vehicle, armed with a 12.7 mm machinegun, and Super Rogue 3 weapons turret, armed with a 20 mm cannon and four missiles.

The 3x3 B-Cat vehicle can be remotely operated at distance of up to 5 km and is designed for things like perimeter control. It can be armed with a 12.7 mm Browning machinegun but the armed version is still being finalised. The vehicle was displayed at the Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) exhibition in September with a mast-mounted Reutech radar and day sights, but can be fitted with other sights.

The civil version of the B-Cat has been around for some seven years and started out as an unmanned mining vehicle for exploring blasting areas. At the beginning of this year B-Cat partnered with Reutech to produce a military version, which will be available for a variety of missions such as anti-poaching, reconnaissance, perimeter surveillance, riot control etc.

The B-Cat is one hundred per cent South African designed and built. Reutech said it is quite unique on the continent and had generated a lot of interest during AAD 2014.

Also showcased at AAD was Reutech’s new Super Rogue 3 (SR3) remotely operated stabilised weapon platform. This features a 20 x 128 mm Rheinmetall Oerlikon cannon controlled remotely using a hand controller and video display. Reutech says the Super Rogue 3 (SR3) is ideally suited to naval applications. It uses a dual field of view infrared camera and electro-optical sight. The SR3 can include four optional surface-to-surface missiles. It was displayed in this configuration at AAD 2014.

Standard sights on the Super Rogue series include a day sight, thermal imaging camera, laser range-finder and optical auto tracker. Total weight of the turret is 520 kg. One of the customers for the Super Rogue 2 has been Benin, which installed the system on three of its OCEA FPB 98 patrol boats.

The Rogue family includes the 12.7 mm Rogue, 7.62/12.7 mm multiple cradle Rogue, missile Rogue, Super Sea Rogue with 20 mm cannon and Super Land Rogue with 20 mm cannon. The Land and Sea Rogue 12.7 mm turrets are in service on South African Navy frigates, the UAE Coast Guard and 55 systems are now in production for a South-East Asian army 8x8 vehicle.

The Missile Rogue is being developed with international partners and will include missiles with a range of up to 6 km against ground targets. It will also include a 12.7 mm machinegun for close support. Missiles can include the Denel Ingwe or Thales Light Multi-role Missile (LMM) with four ready to fire missiles on the turret. A Carl Zeiss Electro Optical sight provides long range reconnaissance and observation capability.
